Alternative Simplified Credit (ASC)
Also: ASC
A U.S. method to compute the §41 credit using recent-year expenses.
The Alternative Simplified Credit calculates the U.S. research credit as a percentage of qualified research expenses that exceed a base equal to a portion of the average QREs of a prior lookback period (commonly described as 50% of the prior three years' average, subject to statutory detail). Many taxpayers prefer ASC for a simpler base than the regular credit method. Confirm current percentages, start-up rules, and election mechanics with IRS guidance.
